Shot by Grégoire Dyer in Dakar, Senegal across May 4-8 2016, the Transmissions films takes viewers on a journey through the 12th edition of La Biennale de Dakar and into the corners of the city. This four-part series presents a unique way of experiencing the biennale from anywhere in the world.

Produced by 1:54 New York 2016 for Transmissions, a project conceived in partnership with La Biennale de Dakar.

To celebrate the concurrence of the biennale’s opening week with 1:54 in New York, 1:54 screened daily highlights from Dak’Art at Pioneer Works during the fair, and vice versa, daily highlights of the fair were screened at Dak’Art during the biennale’s opening week, and continue to screened for its duration. As a cultural exchange between 1:54 and the current artistic activity in Dakar, the collaboration aimed at mapping out the points of convergence between the two platforms.

Simon Njami, curator of the 12th Dakar Biennale, and Touria El Glaoui, Founding Director of 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair on the significance of the collaboration.
