Barnard was founded in 2010 by owner and director Christiaan Barnard and is situated in Cape Town, South Africa. The gallery has earned a reputation for excellence in its focused programming dedicated to supporting emerging and mid-career contemporary artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Europe. The gallery has and continues to participate in significant art fairs in major art world capitals including London, Paris and New York. Barnard also supports its artists through the gallery’s ongoing publishing activities. These limited edition publications have, to date been added to the special library collections of amongst others the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Pratt Institute and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York.
