Dominique Zinkpè’s work is rooted in Fon cosmogony, the contemporary stories he creates vacillate between the real and the imaginary. For this edition of 1-54, l’Agence à Paris is presenting a selection of narrative works – mostly drawings on Canson paper in different formats – from Elise Daubelcour’s private collection. Drawing influence from Basquiat, Bacon and Schiele, Zinkpè’s oeuvre is a mirror of his own inner workings. He invokes hybrid characters – half man, half animal – using a language made of his own symbols and related references as well as to collective animistic beliefs that he shares only with his personal imagination. Notable exhibitions include IN-DISCIPLINE #1, Montresso* Art Foundation, Marrakech (2018); Partage de Territoires, Fondation Zinsou, Cotonou (2017); Des Tigres et des Peintres, Fondation Blachère, Apt (2012) and Cérémonial, Insitut Français, Pointe Noire (2012).
