Emo de Medeiros orchestrates participatory experiences comprised of digital imaging, video, Near-Field Communication, music, performance and installation. These multi-form works are often in conversation with his collaborations with artisan makers, such as Surtentures: large textile artworks incorporating the traditional Beninese appliqué technique and electronic chips. Interested in non-linear narratives, de Medeiros explores the shapes and patterns of African creation as well as its reception both inside and outside the continent.
His work will be presented at the 2018 Dak’Art -Biennale de l’Art African Contemporain, Dakar. In 2017, his work was exhibited at the Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_VideoBrasil; Galerie Karin Wimmer, Munich and La Villette, Paris. Earlier exhibitions include the Marrakesh Biennale; IFAN Museum of African Art, Dakar (2016); Centre Arts et Cultures, Cotonou (2015) and Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2013–14).
