1:54 Lounge designed by Ifeanyi Oganwu
Expand Design Ltd
In collaboration with Galerie Armel Soyer, textile design firm Toghal, and visual artist Phoebe Boswell, Ifeanyi Oganwu has constructed a series of special objects for the 1:54 lounge and bookshop. This installation develops specific spatial devices to amplify the porosity between exterior and interior. The external terraces transform into soft rooms from which to take in sights and sounds of London. Meanwhile, the lounge is defined by waveforms of various scales. In the bookshop, new works are adapted to explore both the circularity and vertical axis of the room; overall the dynamic presentations encourage flexible use of the spaces.
An artist and designer of Nigerian origin, Ifeanyi Oganwu seeks inspiration from diverse sources across the globe — all of which operate at the intersections of art, architecture and design. Oganwu founded the London-based Expand Design Ltd. as means of exploring this fascination with art, culture, and technology. Phoebe Boswell (b. 1982) draws on her own passage of migration and multicultural identity as an entry point into wider social explorations, producing drawings, animations, and installations.
