Claire Oliver Gallery was established in 1992 to promote an agenda emphasizing the physicality of the artistic process regardless of medium. After 16 years in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, the gallery has acquired a significant building in Central Harlem where we are able to facilitate community outreach, including afterschool workshops with our artists and the local YMCA, a building and program steeped in art history and culture.
The gallery’s commitment to remaining solely in the primary market, promoting and encouraging emerging and mid-career artists, has allowed for intensive focus; many of the gallery’s artists have been included in The Venice Biennale and the Whitney Biennial, and have received prestigious fellowships including the Fulbright, Guggenheim, US Artist and NEA. Claire Oliver Gallery artists are included in the permanent collections of many important museums including The Smithsonian American Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, The Tate Modern, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The State Hermitage Museum and MoMA, New York.
