Musa N. Nxumalo is a contemporary photographer whose work explores youth culture, identity and the journey of self-discovery. Nxumalo completed the foundation and intermediate courses at Johannesburg’s Market Photo Workshop between 2006 and 2008 and has since participated in several workshops and master classes. In 2017 Nxumalo’s work was selected as the poster image for the 11th edition of Rencontres de Bamako – Biennale africaine de la photographie, Bamako and included in the group exhibition Art/Afrique, Le nouvel atelier at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris.
Nxumalo’s work forms part of several private and public collections, most notably the CAAC Pigozzi Collection, Geneva. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Edward Ruiz Mentorship (2008); 2nd Prize for the MTN CITY Festival (2009) and 1st prize in Visual Art for the Impact Awards (2010).
