Gqunta graduated with a BTech Degree in Fine Art with a major in sculpture from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth in 2012. She went on to receive a post graduate diploma and master’s degree from Michaelis School of Fine Art, Cape Town. In 2014, selected works from The Home of Residue were exhibited in Greatest Hits 2014: The Domestic Odyssey, curated by Mathew Blackman at The AVA Gallery, Cape Town. This work was a personal exploration of her home life and the way objects act as containers of memory.

Recent solo exhibitions include Qokobe, WHATIFTHEWORLD, Cape Town (2016) and group exhibitions include Negative Space, WHATIFTHEWORLD (2016–17). The exhibition contemplated an enhanced awareness of history and stories by considering the problematics of absence, whether by force, erosion or extraction.
