The leading international art fair dedicated to contemporary African art will return to London for its fifth edition in October 2017, while the third New York edition of the fair will be held across 5-7 May 2017.
With biannual editions in London and New York, 1:54 is the leading international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Drawing reference to the fifty-four countries that constitute the African continent, 1:54 is a sustainable and dynamic platform that is engaged in contemporary dialogue and exchange.
Initiated by Touria El Glaoui in 2013, October 2017 will mark its fifth consecutive edition at Somerset House, London, having returned from its third New York edition in May 2017.
1:54 London 2016 showcased 40 exhibitors, presenting over 130 African and African diasporan artists across the East, South and West Wings of Somerset House. 1:54 London 2016 was accompanied by an educational and artistic programme, FORUM, curated by Koyo Kouoh and included lectures, film screenings and panel discussions with international curators, artists and art professionals.
